Multi- instrumentalist and songwriter, Nick Norton, has performed, written and recorded with a multitude of artists over the last 25 years. Since 2011 Nick has been drummer for Australian rock icons, The Angels, and a writer on much of the band's new original material, including two studio albums and an EP. The reinvigorated Angels lineup post-2011 have toured relentlessly, including Japan, UK, France, Sweden and NZ and hundreds of shows around Australia, as well as dropped a slew of studio and live music releases.
Nick has been a working musician on the Sydney scene for 20 years, and has notched up thousands of gigs as a freelance guitarist, vocalist and drummer, which is still the go-to work, outside of life on the road with The Angels.
Past projects include seminal Australian songwriters, Brewster Brothers, with Nick as sideman, playing across the national circuit. Both studio and live albums were produced during a fertile period with the act.
GangAwry was Nick's first key musical project, with whom, as chief songwriter, he signed publishing and record deals with world famous producer, Harry Vanda's Flashpoint Music. This included much time recording inside the hallowed halls of Albert Sudio, HQ of the legendary Australian record company, Alberts - original home of AC/DC, The Angels and other luminaries.
Nick crooned as vocalist with jazz lounge act, Acca Daiquiris, for a five year stint later, recording two albums and playing hundreds of shows.
On top of recording duties with the aforementioned artists, other sessions have included laying down funk guitar and bass for renowned Deep House music acts, Random Soul, Husky and Yogi.
As songwriter/ bandleader under his own moniker, Nick pursues a unique creative route, performing as guitarist/ vocalist with some of Australia’s finest jazz/ groove musicians
Nick Norton is Sydney's finest source of street funk & soul songcraft, dappled with jazz rock inflections. Featuring Nick's elegant songwriting and arrangements, his band deliver irresistible grooves and feisty improvisation.
